Golden Fish And Chips

Went here the other day for dinner, had the haddock and chips with gravy. The fish was very tasty and battered excellent it wasn't greasy, it was light, and crispy the fish was very tender, and went perfect with the homemade tartar sauce. The fries were great, and the gravy perfect! The atmosphere in the restaurant was family friendly, nice and quiet, and quaint had an old diner feeling to it. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about their menu. I'd recommend this establishment of your a fan of great fish & chips!

Recommended by my colleague and I would recommend you’ll for the best fish and chips in town. Golden is in biz since 37 years and doing great with the making of perfect battered fish. Haddock is everyone’s favourite!

Good fish and chips place. 3 types of fish on the menu. Staff are friendly. I spent some time chatting with them and realised the batter is made fresh daily. Nothing additional to the fish but it comes out with a great taste. A little oily though, due to the deep frying, however, if you love fish and chips, oil comes with it. :). I will come back anytime.

Was in this mom and pop plaza in south hamilton. I was interested in the sub place but then I decided to go somewhere I'd been before when this fish and chip spot caught my eye. What I did not realize is it was 30 mins to closing, probably because there were several people inside. Had I known it was close to closing I would not have gone, it was only 7pm for context. Ordered a chowder (new!), mushy peas and a fish sandwich. The mushy peas were very bland, the peas were not sweet or tasty at all. The chowder was surprisingly good. One of the staff mentioned clam chowder but this is not clam chowder, its very similar but its chock full of scallops baby shrimp and maybe crab or it could have just been more scallops. Really good. Nothing fancy but good ratio of potato to other stuff, really enjoyed the soup. Now for what should have been the star, the "fish" sandwich. Not haddock cod or halibut or else they would say. Now, on tuesdays and wednesdays (today is tuesday) they have a special "fish and chips" for 6.99 which is an incredible deal, but its fish so whatever they choose. By contrast the fish sandwich is 8.99 or 8.50 I can't remember, but 8 something. If you cant tell from the picture, the fish filled half of the bread. The bread was ok, old I'd say. They put way too much tartar sauce. The fish was dry around the edges and even in the middle the fish was barely there. I bet for 6.99 I would have gotten double the fish and alot of fries. This made me feel ripped off. Now I shouldnt complain about the price, things are expensive and 8.99 is about average for a fish sandwich. But I had an arbys fish sandwich last week there was double the amount of fish better bread. They might be making their own tartar sauce which is a nice touch, but it was globbed on so much it was a tartar sandwich with a hint of fish. Its probably my fault for going in so close to closing and also my fault for not eating fries so i opted for the more expensive sandwich option. I paid a total of 19 and change for a half decent chowder. Thanks guys.

We are always pleased with everything about Golden Fish and Chips! Food is awesome! Staff are wonderful and are very funny! Last night had a lovely surprise! A note wishing me a better evening written on our fish box! I needed that! Thank you!

Great price for the tuesday-wednesday deal. You get great portions and fresh food. The fish and chips isn't overly too fishy it's great! Definitely recommend this place for dine-in experience and even take out!!

Used to come here every week for the fish and chips. Came back today since being away. Food and service are always consistent. Food is served quickly and hot. Good flavors. Atmosphere is relaxed and styled like an older diner experience. Definitely worth the visit and the prices are more than fair.

Haddock fish was delicate & flaky that melted in the mouth while had golden texture just as the name suggests with perfect crisp and crunch in each bite. Fries were seasoned just right that enhances its natural potato flavor without overpowering it. They serve generous portions at a very economical price. Highly recommended!
